The Protector Network™ | Version 1
The Protector Network (TPN) is a customer loyalty and retention service designed and developed for Capital Insurance Group (CIG) of Monterey, CA. It is the most extensive member-services program offered by any regional insurance company of which we are aware. Offered free to CIG policy owners, TPN provides members with access to an array of brand-partner savings, free services, a library of exclusive safety and security articles, and recommended books and products to help protect members’ home, auto or business. TPN is focused on prevention, preparedness and risk mitigation.
The challenge set before Shafer Walters Group was to bring TPN’s compelling content to CIG clients, partners and the general public with a visually creative and easily accessible interface. SWG also wrote or edited substantial portions of the site’s content. This corporate Web site design and development was the beginning of a long-term and ongoing partnership between CIG and SWG. In addition to the membership portal, the Web site is integrated with a public facing interface that allows the public to learn more about CIG’s services and to quickly request a free insurance quote.
SWG delivered a complete Web site solution combining both creative design and professional programming in an environment where changes were frequent as our partner learned more about the role of a member-services program in their industry. We delivered a product the client loved while staying within fluid budget and time constraints.
- PLANNING & SPECIFICATION
PLANNING & SPECIFICATIONOver the course of several brainstorming and planning sessions, SWG guided the client through the design specification phase of this content-rich website and members’ portal. It was important for SWG and CIG to work closely in order to identify the requirements and the solutions necessary for this project. SWG facilitated many strategic planning and design sessions in order to construct this product to the satisfaction of CIG and their stakeholders.
- DESIGN PROCESS
DESIGN PROCESSDrawing from the information gathered, SWG needed to determine the look and feel of the web site. As part of the design phase, it was important to strengthen the identity of TPN. Our award-winning Web designers created visual mock-ups for CIG to review, and later provided a working prototype of the web site. This gave our client the opportunity to express their opinion on the design before development began. Communication between SWG and CIG was crucial to ensure that the final design matched the needs of our client.

DEVELOPMENTThe first version of the The Protector Network, the most extensive member-benefit program offered by an insurance company, was one of the first Web sites to be completely developed in NOLOH. NOLOH is ideal for developing feature-rich web sites and web applications faster and with fewer resources. NOLOH extends PHP 5.1+, all but eliminates the need for HTML and JavaScript, and builds in many advanced features such as codeless AJAX, automatic SEO and a full suite of UI controls.

QA & DELIVERY
Good Web design requires attention to the final details. We see thorough testing as an essential and integral part of the development process to ensure that the site is optimized and can be viewed properly in the most recent browsers. SWG is well versed in current standards for web site design and development. A part of the QA process SWG checks to be sure that all of the code written is validated.
- CAMPAIGN INTEGRATION
CAMPAIGN INTEGRATIONIntegration of CIG’s messaging through traditional and online content was critical to CIG. Email campaigns, brochures and other print media, and TPN Web content were integrated with consistent messaging. For example, each month email campaigns featured one of TPN's services, articles or Brand Partners savings.
